Blog Post Assignment #6

What do you learn from these conversations with Anthony Capps?

In the Project Based Learning Part 1 video, I learned several things about Project Based Learning from the interview with Anthony Capps. Capps started by stating that Project Based Learning is used to help get the students to learn something. The goal of a project is to have an authentic audience, student interest, involve the community, and that it is driven by content. Lastly, I learned that the most crucial part of Project Based Learning is for the students to revise and reflect on their work. In Project Based Learning Part 2 video it was stated to never limit your students by giving them exactly what you want them to do. Overall, from these two videos I learned that with Project Based Learning you are a learner and not taught to just "burp back" what you are taught.

iCurio is a tool online that allows students to safely search online media that have been pulled and filtered for educational usage according to Anthony Capps. This online tool allows students and teachers to store content that they find valuable. It also allows students to get practice organizing themselves online. Capps states that it is the best online search tool for students in all grades. I believe I will consider using this search tool when I become an educator.

Another tool Anthony Capps discussed was Discovery Education. This online tool helps students learn more about the class lesson by providing videos about the subject. It is used for student searches and the teachers use it to bring the lesson to life. I agree with Capps stating that visuals help students learn more. I have experienced remembering information by watching a video or seeing a picture so I believe it is important to use visuals while teaching.

After watching The Anthony- Strange List of Tips for Teachers Part 1 I learned some teaching tips that will be useful for me in the future. The first tip was to be interested and willing to learn as an educator. Teaching is hard work but can be exciting and is very rewarding. Another tip is to be creative and get the students motivated to want to learn. The most important tip I believe I learned from this video is to attempt to have 100 percent engagement from the students. No child should be left behind and a teacher should work to get every student excited about learning something in class. It is also important that the students reflect on their work so that they can learn from their mistakes.

In the video Don't Teach Tech- Use it, Anthony Capps states that teachers should not teach technology. Teachers should instead incorporate technology into their lesson plan in order for the students to learn how to use the technology they want them to know how to use. By doing this, it gets the students use to having to learn how to work new technology. Teachers should let technology get students excited about what they are doing. They should also let technology be a way for students to share what they are doing and most importantly the teacher should not expect perfection.

In Anthony Capps last interview video Additional Thought About Lessons I learned about the layers of a lesson. A lesson should be at least four layers thick with different purposes. The four layers are: year, unit size, week, and daily. These layers are broken down into these categories so that the teacher will know how the lesson will be planned out through the year, unit, week, and on a daily basis. Overall, I learned a lot from Anthony Capps by watching his videos with Dr. Strange. His tips and ideas will really help me when I become an educator.
